Lockheed Increases Capabilities Of Its Aegis Missile-Defense System
On Thursday, Lockheed Martin said that it had connected key components of its new long-range discrimination radar, or LRDR, with it Aegis Ashore missile-defense system, enhancing the Aegis’s capabilities. According to the US weapons maker, the new tech will allow the Aegis missile-defense system, a collection of radar stations and interceptors, to simultaneously detect threats from long distances and targets with reduced reaction time. In December, Japan, looking to expand its ballistic missile defense system, made a deal to install Lockheed’s ground-based Aegis in response to a increased tension from North Korea’s ongoing nuclear and missile programs.
