Med Students Now Learning Empathy Skills Via Computer App
Do medical students really lack so much empathy that they need to learn it from robots?
Seems so. According to UPI, med students at the University of Michigan are learning empathy to improve how they interact with patients and deliver bad news.
Researchers used a computer application that allows students to talk with emotive, computer-based virtual humans who can see, hear and react to them in real time.
Poor clinician communication skills may lead to lower levels of patient satisfaction and health outcomes, and higher risk of complaints and malpractice claims.
